Friend of mine is looking at a Mazda 5 for his family. I like it, but I'm a Mazda fanboy, so I'm biased. What say you OPPO?

Edit: He's looking at used models at/under $10k.

The size a minivan SHOULD be.

great size, dual sliding doors. I like the older boxier ones though, the new ones are too many wavy lines and not a fan of the rear lights design

Before buying my wife's 6, I took a couple of 5s out for a test drive, and while the extra space in back was nice, it just didn't seem to come together as well as the 6. I'm glad that I held out for the 6 though, it's been a great car. I'm sure it's well put together, but for something that heavy, it really does need a bigger engine.

Minivans are still the most useful form factor ever devised for a family car, and if I needed to buy one, the 5 would be it. I might consider a Transit Connect too, though, since the Mazda is discontinued.

My friend has 4 kids, so a 6 unfortunately won't really work for their needs. He was considering some Volvo station wagons and similar, but those can be iffy on maintenance. I like Mazda parts prices...

Well, it can't really be beat for the price then. The Honda Od is similar in size, but the prices on those are all pretty CP.

They already have an Odyssey for one vehicle. They're looking to get a second car that can haul 6+ and have room for stuff when not doing so. I'm thinking this is a good choice.

Well it's the 1 true minivan out there so I like it, which doesn't mean much from me.

I recently bought a 2012 Mazda5 6-speed with 34K on the clock for just under $11,000. Love it so far.

We love our Mazda 5, it is a 2012 so it has those strange lines on the side, but so practical and a pretty good driving experience and pretty good gas mileage.

No problems on the reliability front yet. Got rid of a Dodge Caravan when we got it, so much better if you don't need that extra room, the Dodge was bigger on the inside, especially when you are using all three rows.

You can buy a Mazda5 with a stick, so it gets my stamp of approval.

I think these are pretty sweet since, from what I've heard, they are basically a Mazda3 with a van body.

And they come with 3 pedals.

This pretty much sums it up...

Currently, it is one of the only new cars to score a marginal in the side impact test, and it was one of the worst tested in the small overlap test.

They are really really low rent. We hardly ever sold them when I worked at Mazda. I Wouldn't.

Stay away from the 2.3, awful engine, 76000 miles on a Mazda 3 and piston #2 is cooked...

I had one as a rental once. I thought it was a pretty composed vehicle. Nothing fancy in it or to it (which I like), the engine had enough power at best though, and though it will fit 6 people I wouldn't recommend making your adult friends sit in the far back.
